I am only an apprentice, learning a craft

What could be worst on your first day practical training in an architecture firm than slicing your finger while ‘modelling’? And it was bleeding nonstop, like a blood fountain. My mom said it’s not cutting my finger, it’s like slicing flesh out of my finger. It sounds ewwww rite. It is very ewwwww. It was very pain of course, but i felt so embarassed that i didn’t feel much pain but mere embarassment. First day wor, made me look like i haven’t try cutting or making models before.

And i was worried that it would bleed nonstop coz i used alot of tissues and the tissues were drenched in bloody red even faster than anything else. Luckily it stopped after quite some time. Did a The Wave Tower study model for Dubai. But it can’t really balance. It seems like it wants to tumbang, like the Tower of Pisa. It’s more ripple-y than wavy though - the people there said. haha.

U think slicing my finger is enough for a day rite especially the first day. My ‘aunty’ came to visit me somemore. Why am i seeing so many reds for a day? Stomach pain lar….OK. Enough of ewwww talks d.

I felt kinda guilty to be the earliest to leave the office coz everyone was still busy working but i have nothing to do d plus i dunno 3D Max. When i asked my ‘buddy’ wat time they usually leave the office, she said it depends. Most of the time, they’ll stay until 10 or something at night. If the principal architect is there ( usually he wants them to change this or that), they’l stay until 3 to 4 am. But that doesn’t happen frequently la, only when ther are deadlines. But when they stay till morning, they’ll have half day off for the next day. So basically they start working at 9 am but leave the office much later than any normal people would. That’s how lives for architects or those who work in architecture firm.

Been to Singapore for a week, walked everyday for a very long time each day. Took countless times of bus and mrt. Leg and shoulder pain, leg because of constant walking, shoulders because of heavy bags. Many feelings during the trip. Seen many things, done many stuffs. Been to many places as well, and took lotsa pics. I was amazed by singapore, their city, town planning, landscape, roads, arts, sculptures, arts festivals, catering to everyone’s needs, kindness, countless shopping malls and all. Learnt alot in a one week trip, finally able to see something real and not in books or internets.

i noe i should be uploading my tall island, train models and now singapore pics and other stories… And i hope to blog about Singapore trip as well. Haihz. By the way, i am going for the Beyond Borders Archi Camp. So i’ll be missing out a get together wif chs friends coz it’s e ting’s birthday on sunday. But i figured i don’t want to miss this opportunity although i’ll only be an observer. Just too tired now. I unwind by listening to Yundi Li now. Heheh.

Impact of words

"A happy PM can do a lot of good work. I’m not saying I’ve not been happy so far, but i’m happier with a companion now."

So i guess " A happy person can do much better work especially when they have their own companions or love? Coz they are happier?"

So what happens to those who are singles?

They’ll still do a good job but better if they have companions?

Or those who do lousy jobs will do better if they find love?

Hmmm…..

Of women and their hardships

I bought two books today. I haven’t read for a really long time coz lack of time and i can’t seem to find books that interest me. In primaryschool,   i was a fan of Enid Blyton, and then Sweet Valley. I had tons of Sweet Valley High books and i would reread hundreds of times until i could practically know the sentences after this or what’s going to happen after that and all. i think i could rewrite the whole book. Then i also started reading Sweet Valley University in Form 1. Also, I remember those days when i was an avid fan of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. My friends and i would exchange books to read.

In the first or second year in secondary school, i would go gaga over Princess Diaries or any Meg Cabot books. Then i moved on to mystery an adventure novels by Dan Brown like Da Vinci Code. I was totally engrossed with Dan Brown’s books that i could sacrifice dinner and sleep. ( Now i can’t believe i can sacrifice these over an interesting book but i can’t do the same for architecture work. haha)At the same time, i read books like Memoirs of A Geisha, A Walk to Remember, P.S I Love You and Can You Keep A Secret? . Nowadays, i’m not into books like Shopalic or some chick lit books anymore. Coz these novels paint nice sceneries or dramatic moments in your mind that are usually unreal or will never happen to anyone. However, i still cherish ‘A Walk To Remember’, it’s a really good book. And i am also fond of ‘The Joy Luck Club’, it tells about the Chinese immigrants in America and how they lived their lives there and tried to preserve their culture and heritage through women’s point of view( those women are of different generation, like mother and daughter). The book tells stories of different women in the first person view. It is very interesting and i would encourage everyone to read it. It kinda made me weep after reading about the hardships of these women.

Of course i read Harry Potter. At first i didn’t understand why everyone was so crazy over the books. So i tried reading one ( coz my brother collects), then i realised it allows plenty of space for imagination ( like maybe this particular scene in Harry Potter that i have in my mind may be different than yours). Plus it is out of the norm ( i mean the whole concept of the story)  but i find it a bit funny that even adults age 40+ are also into it.

Actually, most of the books i read last time were introduced by my friends or when there was a period where everyone was reading the same book. Now, i read books with stories that i can relate to or inspiring, or mostly of my own taste.

The books that i bought today are ‘The Wonder Spot’ and ‘ The Blood of Flowers’. Well, these two books have similarities but quite different in the sense of the settings. I’ll just tell you the synopsis of these two books. ( those written at the back cover)

The Wonder Spot ( Melissa Bank)

Meet Sophie Applebaum, an everywoman who doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. She’s looking for a career - but lacks a calling; looking for love - but winds up with men who put her off instead of pull her in. The women she befriends want a girl who’s strong but who can’t say no. At drinks parties, she feels like a solid trying to do a liquid’s job.

It isn’t easy to find your place in the world, but Sophie’s willing to work at it. And with every false step, she might just be getting closer to creating the life she wants to have…

I don’t think this is a chick lit book. Not, right?

The Blood Of Flowers  (Anita Amirrezvani, this is her first book.)

<i’m being advanturous, haha>

In the fabled cityof Isfahan, a young woman blossoms as a brilliant designer of carpets, a rarity in a craft dominated by men. But while her talent flourishes, her prospects for a happy time grow dim. Forced into a secret, untenable marriage to a wealthy man, the young woman faces daunting choice - to forsake her dignity or to risk everything in an effort to create a new life. this spellbinding tale of adversity, adventure, and triumph makes indelibly real the dazzling world of Persia.

Maybe i’m in the phase of creating myself and finding my path in life that makes me attracted to these books. Moreover these two characters had to go through hardships in their lives.I’m sure these two books will be inspiring. As much as i like inspiring stories about women, i’m not really the kind who reads Chicken Soup For The Soul. Hehe. Also, i think i’m getting more interested in books on social or political issues. I wanted to buy a book with the title "Racists" ( about racism in the African countries) and another which i can’t remember the name. I think it starts with ‘Power ….’. The title has two words. It’s about politics in America. They are more expensive though. I figured i need to finish reading the two books that i bought today first. i might review these two books after i finish reading them.
